Cat’s meow

Annette Mahoney won the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society’s Chase the Ace for Cats earlier this month. The group is shown here presenting Mahoney with her prize of $54,290. The fundraiser was held weekly at Ziggy’s Pub & Grill in Sydney River until the ace of spades was finally pulled with only 13 cards remaining. Shown with the winner are FAACS volunteers and Ziggy’s staff members. From left to right are, Susan Young, Jenny Stone, Karen MacKay, Annette Mahoney, Linda Quinn, Carmen Dunn and Matt Boyd, behind counter.

Feral and Abandoned Cat Society

The Feral and Abandoned Cat Society (FAACS) is a registered charity that was founded in 2012 and is run entirely by volunteers. Our programs help prevent and humanely control homeless cat populations, improving the quality of life for cats and communities on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia.

The objectives of our society are to promote the welfare of animals for the benefit of the public by:

  • Operating a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program

  • Providing a spay-neuter program for low-income cat owners

  • Educating the public on responsible pet ownership

To date, we have provided veterinary care to over 12,000 cats and have provided food and shelter to over 1,000 cats!
